Sargent & Greenleaf, Rochester, New York - 2 movements, Model #4B
aka Cleoh

These patent drawings dating from January 16, 1877 show a remarkable
similarity to the Model 4B which was not introduced until much later. S&G
time locks generally operated with the boltwork on a safe whether manual or
automatic designs. But there were a few limited production models that were
modified designs of their standard models to operate directly on the
combination lock, usually by interfering with the operation of the
combination lock's fence until the time lock was off guard. S&G had modified
their Model 2 (which was used in their Model 1), the Model 3 and Model 4
as represented by their Model
4A and Model 4B.
The model #4B was introduced in about 1900 and was produced until 1929 when
time lock production across the entire S&G as well as all other makers
ceased due to the Great Depression and associated banking crisis.
Model #4B, (later no. 6202) and also known as the Cleoh. c.
1910. Almost all S&G time locks were designed to operate by blocking the bolt work on
the vault door. This model, with it's modified dog arm, was designed (as was the company's
first time lock, the model 1) to operate directly on the combination lock's
fence. These were
designed for use in National Safe Co., cannonball safes (3).
Jeweled crystalline style bronze case. Fewer than two hundred were made.
Less than a dozen are thought to have survived. Case designated as 4B. Case #4B-2606, movement #2933. file 35
