The water meter plates had been so corroded that a complete resurfacing was necessary. This entailed the removal and recreation of the wavy damascene design. The original was not a coherent machine made design but a free hand swirl. All of the steel arbors were cleaned and then bluing agent was painted on just as had been done originally. All parts were degreased in an ultrasonic tank and then lightly polished on a soft wire wheel.
