Eric Watson, Saddleworth, England, 1986

Underside, pre restoration. This was the only orrery that Watson equipped with a fusee chain at the request of Mr. Gold. The chain was provided by Sinclair Harding Clocks.

Two views of the outer planet rings support structure. The rings are supported on three equidistant quadrants. Two are like those shown in the first photo. The third, is where the rollers are spring-loaded. These keep the rings centered.

This is a view of the escapement and remontoire. To the left one can see a blue spring mounted above the escape wheel. This is the spring remontoire driven by the small weighted governor dampened by an oil bath in the drum above. The drive is connected to the fork that straddles one of the escape wheel spokes. That spring is rewound each second to drive the balance wheel. This allows the powerful spring to devote its energy to drive the over eighty wheels located in the orrery armature.

A close up of the jeweled escape pallet, pre restoration..
