Sargent & Greenleaf, Rochester, New York - 3 movements
A. Model Triple B. Pre- satin bronze case with signature damascene surface. Note the surfaces of the snubber bar and drop bolt have plain surfaces indicating a date sometime after 1920. Later fitted movements of silver color rather than brass that would have been the original matching color. Note the style of the enamel dials. These are also of a later style than would have been original to this type of case. This was later known as model #6305. Case bolt #B-787, movements 1-1548, 1-1535, 1-1545 (much later serial numbers). file 106 B. Model Triple A., c. 1890's. Uses the same sized movements as found in the more common Model Triple B, but in a smaller case; excluding the normal bolt works, hence the smaller size. The lock was designed to sit on top of a separate automatic bolt opener (name plate shown). It is the company's first modular three movement design. While the design used modular movements they were not interchangeable, and each had it's specified location. One can usually see scratch marks made by the installer on each movement; I, II, III indicating their order.Case # A-571, consecutively numbered "L"-size movements #4525, #4526, #4527.See a complete lock with bolt motor and a rare two movement version of this type of lock ( 'D', last lock on that page). file 68 C. A modern version of the 6300 series. In the later half of the 20th century many manufacturers cut costs by dispensing with the metal door and replacing it with a screwed on plastic (or in this case combination metal / plastic) cover; often with integral lenses for easier reading of the dial. c. 1950's or later. file 61 |
